Nepal Rupee and paise

Nepal is between India and Tibet, and the effect of Indian coins can easily be seen on the Nepalese coins through the centuries. The date shown on the Nepalese coins is in Vikram Samvat(V.S.), which started in 57 B.C.So to convert VS to AD , we just have to subtract 57 from the VS  date. Nepalese coins are often mistaken to be from the ancient city of Naples in Italy, but that is not the case. Nepal is the only Hindu kingdom in the  world. Agriculture is the chief occupation there and tourism is the principal source of foriegn exchange.

In 2001, the crown prince Dipendra shot his father, mother and other family members over some dispute over hs lady friend. He died 48 hours later from self inflicted gunshot wounds. Therafter, Gyanedra began his second reign as king( the first time was was for about one year in 1950 when he was a child).
